Police

A Northern Territory Police Officer is recovering today from injuries sustained during an incident in Katherine overnight.

While conducting a RBT just after 9pm, it’s alleged the driver of a vehicle grabbed hold of the Officer’s arm and accelerated from the scene.

“The Senior Constable was forced to run alongside the car before falling to the road and rolling away.” Said Superintendent Brent Warren.

“A short pursuit followed before the accused man fled on foot from his vehicle.”

“Officers saturated the area, soon arresting the 45-year-old man.”

“The Senior Constable suffered scrapes, cuts and bruising to his arms, legs, hands and shoulders associated with falling to the bitumen at speed.” Said Supt Warren

“It’s fortunate the Officer wasn’t more seriously injured.”

The 45-year-old man is currently in Police custody and will be interviewed later today.
