Multiple Charges for P-Plater - Darwin

Police

A man will face a string of weapons and traffic charges after Police allegedly caught him driving the same unregistered, uninsured vehicle twice in one night and for carrying an unregistered firearm without a licence.

Constable Brentley Holmes from the Darwin Tactical Team said Police allege the provisional licensed driver was found behind the wheel of an unregistered, uninsured Holden Commodore station wagon on Sunday night.

“Police allege the 22-year-old was driving the vehicle while not displaying P-plates on Murphy Drive at around 11.50,” Constable Holmes said.

“The car’s licence plates were removed and Police aware stickers were attached to the vehicle.

“The 22-year-old was told he would be summonsed for driving unregistered/uninsured and driving without displaying P-plates.

“He left the scene on foot but about half an hour later the same car was allegedly seen turning from Murphy Drive onto Charles Eaton Drive.

“Police pulled the vehicle over and found the same man driving. He was arrested.

“Officers searched the vehicle and allegedly found a loaded rifle and ammunition.”

The man was charged with:

Possess firearm without licence;

Possess ammunition without licence;

Fail to meet firearm transport requirements;

Possess unregistered firearm;

Drive unregistered motor vehicle (x2);

Drive uninsured motor vehicle (x2);

Drive not displaying P plates (x2);

He was remanded in custody to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court this morning.
