Man on Assault Police Charges - Tennant Creek

Police

A Tennant Creek man will appear in court today to face charges of resist arrest, assault Police and contravene a domestic violence order.

Police Superintendent Craig Barrett said the 28-year-old allegedly head butted an Officer in the face during a domestic violence welfare check resulting in the Officer receiving a fractured eye socket.

“The Officer and another Member went to check on the welfare of a woman involved in a domestic violence situation in Tennant Creek on Friday night when the incident occurred,” Superintendent Barrett said.

“When Officers arrived at the house they found an intoxicated man.

“In the course of removing the man from the house a struggle has ensued.”

Police will allege the man head butted the 46-year-old Officer resulting in him receiving a fractured eye socket and a bloodied nose.

Superintendent Barrett said while it was an unfortunate reality of Policing that injuries occurred on the job, Police do not tolerate such abuse.

“Police are here to ensure community safety. Police do know the dangers but we won’t tolerate assault on Police during their duty.”

Superintendent Barrett said the Officer was recovering but would require further treatment.

The man was charged with:

Contravene a Domestic Violence Order;

Resist Arrest, and;

Assault Police.

He was remanded in custody and will face the Tennant Creek Magistrates Court today.
