A 29-year-old man has been arrested following a machete attack that occurred on Bickerton Island early yesterday morning.
Senior Sergeant Tony Deutrom said the man became angered whilst walking down a street in Bickerton Community and threatened a 21-year-old woman with a machete.
“It is alleged that he left the area and returned a short time later, armed with a spear. He threw it at the woman, striking her shoulder,” Senior Sergeant Deutrom said.
“The woman’s 34-year-old brother came to her aid and, as a result, received a deep laceration to his forearm from a machete strike.”
“Police attended and arrested the offender. He was charged with aggravated assault (x2) and going armed in public. He was remanded in custody to appear in the Darwin Magistrate’s Court 8 February 2012.
“The injured man was taken to the local health clinic and later to Royal Darwin Hospital to receive treatment.”
