Man arrested for high range drink driving, drive whilst disqualified - Alice Springs

Police

Northern Territory Police arrested a man this morning after they allegedly found him driving a four-wheel-drive while disqualified and under the influence of alcohol.

Officer in Charge of Southern Traffic Operations Conan Robertson said the 20-year-old was pulled over at a random breath station at around 9am this morning.

“Police allege the man was the driving a Ford Explorer west along Head Street towards Madigan Street when he was directed to a random breath testing station,” Sergeant Robertson said.

“When asked to produce his licence he allegedly told Police he did not have one.

“A breath Analysis allegedly produced a reading of 0.164.”

Sergeant Robertson said, ironically, there were two other men were in the vehicle, including one who was sober and licensed.

"It is bemusing that the sober licensed passenger was willing to put his life in the hands of this drunken fool,” he said.

"At this time of the day we expect to interact with people on their way to work or dropping their kids off at school.

“This guy was not doing either of those things but he has certainly a dangerous hazard for the people who were.

“We will be continuing to conduct RBT stations at all times of the day or night and people who want to engage in this reckless and dangerous behaviour will also eventually be caught."

The man was charged with:

Drive a motor vehicle while disqualified;

Drive high range blood alcohol content.

He is due to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court this afternoon.
