Man Arrested for Computer Images

Police

A joint investigation by Detectives from the Police Sex Crimes Division and South Australian Police resulted in the arrest of a 24 year-old man in Casuarina this morning.

Superintendent Joanne Foley from the Sex Crimes Division said the man is alleged to have had 466 images that were classed as child abuse material.

“Most disturbing were the 72 images of category 5 child Abuse Material that depict children being tortured, abused or involved in bestiality.”

The arrest comes on the back of raids that occurred last October where Detectives seized computers, mobile phones and data storage devices from the man’s home.

“The dedication of our Detectives to bring offenders of this nature before the courts is to be congratulated” Superintendent Foley said. “Police will continue to proactively seek out those offenders that choose the internet as their preferred medium for offending.”

The man appeared in Darwin Magistrates Court this afternoon.
