Lock It or Lose It - Tennant Creek

Police

Tennant Creek Police are investigating a series of unlawful entries in the town.

Between 6:30 and 7:30 yesterday morning, thieves entered a Schmidt Street unit through an unlocked back door.

Keys and children’s goods were stolen.

“In a separate robbery, a mobile phone and a gold men’s watch were stolen from an unlocked car parked on Noble Street.” Said Superintendent Craig Barrett.

“In the most significant unlawful entry, thieves stole car keys from an unlocked house on Eldorado Street and subsequently stole a utility from the premises driveway.”

“The thieves fuelled up at the Barkly Homestead and drove off without paying, heading for Queensland.” Said Supt Barrett.

“Queensland Police were forced to deploy ‘spike strips’ to disable the vehicle.”

“Two males aged 19 and 20-years-old were arrested after trying to flee the scene.” Said Supt Barrett

The pair will face traffic offences in Queensland before facing further stealing charges in the Territory.

"Crimes sometimes occur due to circumstances that are provided to criminals. To reduce the chance of becoming a victim of crime, don’t provide an opportunity to would-be thieves by leaving your vehicles, houses or property unsecured."
