Grass Supply Foiled by Police

Police

1,700 individually wrapped foils of cannabis weighing 0.2 grams each were seized at Darwin Airport by Drug and Organised Crime Squad Detectives yesterday.

Police will allege the drugs were heading for Nguiu on the Tiwi Islands and were concealed in biscuit boxes and cigarette packets

Detective Acting Superintendent Peter Schiller said the haul would have cost the Tiwi Island community in excess of $46,000

“People who profit from this kind of enterprise give very little thought of what harm they are doing to vulnerable members of society.  They care only about themselves and Police are determined to disrupt this supply.

“A substantial effort was obviously involved in physically preparing these foils and concealing them.  It is shame this industrious effort couldn't be directed towards something that benefits the community rather than something that brings misery."

A 36 year-old female has been arrested and charged with Possessing a Trafficable Quantity of Cannabis and Supply a Dangerous Drug in a Remote Community.  She was bailed to appear at the Darwin Magistrates Court on the 21st June.
