Four More Drink Drivers Caught Alice Springs

Alice Springs Police said another four people were caught drink driving in just over two hours yesterday afternoon.

Sergeant Conan Robertson from Southern Traffic Operations Unit said two of the drivers were also disqualified from driving.

Police were fed up with irresponsible drivers, Sergeant Robertson said.

“Two of these drivers were caught right in the Alice Springs CBD at a very busy time when school kids were moving around,” he said.

“These irresponsible people are a danger to everyone else on the road, including children.”

Sergeant Robertson said a 55-year-old was the first driver caught.

“At around 2.55pm the man was allegedly caught driving along Todd Street with a breath alcohol content of 0.130,” he said.

“He was charged with drive medium range blood alcohol content and was bailed to appear in Alice Springs Court on April 19.

“At 4.30pm, Police caught a 22-year-old driving along Todd Street allegedly with a BrAC of 0.083. The man was also driving while disqualified.

“He was charged with:

Drive a motor vehicle while disqualified, and;

Drive medium range blood alcohol content.

“Just before 5pm a 34-year-old was found driving a vehicle along Karnte Road allegedly with a 0.139 per cent BrAC. He was also disqualified from driving.

“He was charged with:

Drive a motor vehicle while disqualified, and;

Drive medium range blood alcohol content.

“Then at around 5.10pm a 28-year-old was found to be driving along South Terrace.

“He returned a positive breath test and later allegedly retuned a BrAC of 0.084 per cent.

“He was charged with:

Drive medium range blood alcohol content;

Drive vehicle when not under alcohol ignition lock licence;

Drive uninsured motor vehicle, and;

Drive unregistered motor vehicle.

“In a separate incident at about 11am, Police apprehended a 28-year-old at an RBT station on the Stuart Highway who was allegedly driving a Nissan truck with a car licence.

“He was charged with:

Drive unlicensed;

Driver give false information;

Drive an unregistered heavy vehicle, and;

Drive an uninsured motor vehicle.

“All four drivers were remanded in custody to appear in Alice Springs Court today.”
