Domestic Violence Offenders Arrested in Alice Springs

A man has been charged with numerous offences including deprivation of liberty and will be appearing in court next month following a domestic incident.

Constable First Class Ron Guascoine of the Southern Domestic Violence Prevention Unit said the 36-year-old man was arrested after an incident which occurred in Hidden Valley Camp.

“On 3 February, it is alleged the man used a metal bar and rocks, striking his 25-year-old partner numerous times to the head, arm and legs. She was held at the house until she fled the following morning to receive medical treatment. Thankfully the woman sustained no major injuries,” Constable First Class Ron Guacosine said.

“He was arrested that day and charged with aggravated assault, armed with an offensive weapon (x2) and deprivation of liberty. He has been remanded to appear in court 22 March 2012.

In a second, unrelated incident, a 33-year-old man was arrested after an altercation which occurred on Plumbago Crescent, Sadadeen. 

“On 2 February, the man’s 31-year-old partner received a puncture wound to her arm before she fled the scene to alert neighbours,” Constable First Class Guascoine said.

“The man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and possess carry use a controlled weapon. He was remanded in custody and is to appear in the Alice Springs Court today.

“The majority of these incidents occur when people have consumed too much alcohol, therefore I urge everyone to drink responsibly. Should you suspect domestic violence on friends, family or neighbours, please contact us on 131 444 or 000 if the situation is believed to be life threatening.

“Domestic violence is a serious offence and will not be tolerated by Police.”
