Copper Wire Weaves Tangled Web

Northern Territory Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding how a large quantity of copper wire cabling came to be stored in an industrial shed on Marjorie Street in Pinelands.

The wire is alleged to have come from the Channel Island Power Station and is owned by the Power and Water Corporation.  Power and Water have confirmed the removal of the wire from the site was not authorised.

Sergeant Kaye Pemberton from the Darwin Tactical Team said that with the assistance of Power and Water representatives Police had seized 60 drums of copper wire from the shed.

“Police can confirm that a criminal investigation regarding the removal of the copper wire from Channel Island is underway.”

Sergeant Pemberton said other items, including a mobile phone and a laptop, that could help Police with their inquires had also been seized and that investigations are continuing.
