CCTV The Silent Weapon - Alice Springs

Police

Alice Springs Police are confident of identifying offenders responsible for a series of unlawful entries in the town overnight.

Just after two o’clock this morning, offenders forced the back door and bent the security grill to gain entry to the Town and Country Tavern. A quantity of alcohol was stolen.

An hour-and-a-half later the Gillen Club was targeted. Offenders smashed a window before making off with about 24 bottles of pre-mix alcohol.

Just before 0530, Police were called to the Memorial Club. Offenders smashed a bathroom window. Initial inquiries suggest entry was not successful and nothing was stolen.

In a busy few hours for Police, thieves also broke into the Alice Springs Golf Club through a restaurant door and stole alcohol.

“Fortunately three of these premises had CCTV cameras. This will go a long way to helping Police identify the offenders.” Said Senior Sergeant Dave Richardson.

“Our Forensic Officers will also assess the scenes to gather the evidence needed to build strong cases against these offenders.”

“Police are working hard to reduce property crime, we appreciate the support of the local community and we applaud those businesses that have taken the step to install CCTV to help catch offenders.” Said Sen Sgt Richardson

Anyone with information or may have witnessed the unlawful entries is urged to contact the Police Assistance Line on 131444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
