Call for Public Assistance - Alleged Sexual Assault - Nightcliff

Police

Sex Crimes Detectives are calling for public assistance following the report of a sexual assault of a 15 year old girl in the suburb of Nightcliff yesterday afternoon, 21 February 2012.

Superintendent Jo Foley said while Detectives continue with extensive patrols and door knocks throughout the area, this incident is reported to have occurred in broad daylight on a well used stretch of road so someone must have seen something.

“Police are calling on anyone who may have seen a dark coloured, four wheel drive vehicle in the Bougainvillea Street and Hickory Street area between 3pm and 3.30pm yesterday.

“The vehicle is described as being similar to an 80 Series Landcruiser.

“The victim reports being dragged into the vehicle on Bougainvillea Street, sexually assaulted while the vehicle was  driven to Hickory Street where she was dropped off.

“Although it was initially reported to Police that one male was involved, in order for the vehicle to have been in motion while the alleged sexual assault occurred, Police believe a second person must have been driving.

“Police do not have any description of the driver of the vehicle and it remains unknown at this preliminary stage of the investigation whether the male reported to have committed the sexual assault was Caucasian or otherwise.

“While Police continue to investigate this report, anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen a vehicle matching this description is urged to call us on 131 444 or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 immediately.” Superintendent Foley said.
