General Crime Detectives have arrested a 26 year-old man in relation to an assault that occurred in a licensed premise on Mitchell Street in the early hours of Sunday Morning.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Chris Board said the man was arrested outside an inner city hotel just before eleven o’clock this morning.

“Acting on information received from the public detectives located and arrested the man without incident.”

“The man had made some attempt to disguise himself to avoid apprehension by Police.  We also had information, which has since been confirmed, that the man was preparing to flee the Northern Territory.”

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Board said the man will be charged with Aggravated Assault Causing Harm after a 26 year-old man was struck in the head causing facial injuries.

"General Crime Detectives and an Intelligence Officer have been working tirelessly on this investigation since Sunday morning. Investigations into the incident, including the circumstances surrounding how the injuries were inflicted on the victim are continuing. "
