Police are investigating the assault of a male that occurred on Gregory Terrace in Alice Springs yesterday.

It is alleged that the 36-year-old male was walking through the Post Office car park at approximately 4:30 pm when he was approached by five aboriginal males aged between 15-18 years old.

He was asked for cigarettes however when he declined, the males assaulted him.

All offenders fled the scene in a dark grey coloured hatchback.

Police urge anyone that may have witnessed the incident to contact them on 131 444.
