Teens caught in the act - Alice Springs

Police

Four teens were arrested by police after they were caught in the act of breaking into the Alice Springs Golf Club this morning.

Police working on Operation Thresher had secreted themselves inside the Golf Club after the premises had been unlawfully entered twice in the previous two days.

Just after 2.30am they caught four males entering the premises after smashing a glass door. Once they were on the premises police made themselves known and they were arrested.

Detective Senior Constable Deanne Ward said the youngsters were aged between 13 and 15.

“Over the previous two nights offenders had smashed the glass doors of the premises to gain entry before stealing alcohol,” Det Sen Const Ward said.

“In light of this, Police officers working on  Operation Thresher arranged with the management to remain on the premises after closing to try to catch the offenders in the act.

“As it turned out they turned up in the early hours of the morning, but Police were ready for them. The youths were arrested at the scene and are in the process of being interviewed.”

Det Sen Constable Ward said police would continue using covert and high visibility patrols to prevent anti-social behaviour and property offending.

“Offenders can be put on notice that this type of targeted policing is aimed at disrupting their behaviour and offenders will be arrested and put before the courts.”
