Major Crime Detectives have travelled to Nhulunbuy early this morning to investigate the death of a 44-year-old female that occurred overnight.

It is alleged that at approximately 11:15 pm there was an altercation at a residence in Ski Beach between the victim and the 47-year-old female offender, resulting in the victim receiving a puncture wound to her chest.

Police and St John Ambulance members attended the scene and conveyed the victim to the Gove District Hospital. She died a short time later.

The alleged offender was located and arrested soon after and remains in Police custody at this time.
