Police Seize Seven Kilograms of Cannabis in Katherine

Police

Police have arrested and charged a 35-year-old male in relation to seven kilograms of cannabis located in a vehicle overnight in Katherine.

Northern Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk Detectives, Northern Dog Operations Unit and Katherine Detectives arrested the male travelling to Katherine after Drug Detector Dog Archie discovered he was in possession of the drugs.

The male has been charged with possession and supply of a commercial quantity of cannabis and will appear in the Katherine Court today.

Detective Sergeant Tony Henrys of the Northern Investigation Section said that this is an impressive result.

"It's great that we were all able to work together to make this arrest. These drugs have a potential street value of as much as or more than $350,000 in remote communities and it's great that they are now off the streets," Detective Sergeant Henrys said.

"This clearly sends a message to anyone contemplating committing a similar crime; Police are out there and with the assistance of our Drug Detector Dogs, we will be trying to, and are likely to find you."

Police urge anyone that may have information about illicit or prescription drug activity to contact them on 131 444.
