Drug Operation Darwin

Police

NT Police have seized a large amount of cannabis and two hydroponics setups as part of a specialised operation late last week.

Operation Pointer was aimed at disrupting the supply and availability of cannabis in the Darwin area.

Members from the Drug and Organised Crime Section arrested a 47-year-old Bees Creek man on Friday, after they located large amounts of cannabis and hydroponics equipment at his rural property. Police initially executed a search warrant at the offender's Coolalinga work place, where they located over a kilogram of cannabis; a subsequent search of his rural property revealed 4.4 kilos of cannabis, 10 cannabis plants and two hydroponics grow rooms.

The offender was arrested and conveyed to Darwin Watch House where he was later charged in relation to the following offences:

2 x Possess commercial quantity of cannabis

Cultivate trafficable quantity of cannabis

He was remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Magistrates Court on Monday 28 March 2011.

Detective A/Superintendent, Andrew Pusterla, said this haul would disrupt the accessibility of cannabis in Darwin.

"NT Police are determined to interrupt the distribution of dangerous drugs in and around the Darwin region, and throughout the whole of the NT" he said.
