Drug Arrest -Apatula (Finke)

Police

Police arrested a 25 year-old man from Apatula Community yesterday for drug and other offences.

Apatula and Kulgera Police, as well as the Alice Springs Dog Operations Unit, executed a search warrant on a home in Apatula Community on Saturday 26 November. Drug Detection Dog, Yona, showed positive reactions to various rooms in the house.

Police seized approximately 75 grams of cannabis in 95 deal bags, a further bag of cannabis, 268 empty deal bags, drug paraphernalia and $430 in cash. In addition, the man’s vehicle, fireworks and alcohol were also seized. The estimated value of the cannabis if sold in the community is $2,500.

The man has been charged with the following offences;

  • Supply Dangerous Drug in a Community
  • Possess Cannabis – Trafficable Quantity
  • Administer A Dangerous Drug To Self
  • Possess Liquor In A Restricted Area
  • Possession Of Dangerous Goods
  • Consume Liquor In A Restricted Area

He has been bailed to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court on 24 January, 2012.

Superintendent Peter Gordon believes that this arrest sends out a strong message to others who might contemplate trafficking drugs.

“Police will not tolerate drugs in remote communities, and anyone caught will be subjected to the full extent of the law.

“Given that the effects of drugs in these communities have such a potentially negative impact, Police will continue to use all resources available, including drug detector dogs such as Yona, to hamper drug trafficking.”
