Drink drivers continue to disappoint Palmerston and Darwin

Police

NT Police continue to be disappointed and frustrated after coming across a female drink driver while transporting a male drink driver who was caught twice overnight.

Senior Sergeant Wayne Jenkinson said a 29-year-old man was pulled over on Baldwin Drive in Woodroffe just before 3:20am and was subjected to a roadside breath test in which he returned a positive reading.

“The man was arrested and taken to the Palmerston Police Station where he returned a breath analysis reading of .095%. He was dealt with at Palmerston Police Station and placed into the care of another sober adult to appear by way of summons at a later date.

“At about 4:20am, the same man was pulled over again but this time on Tamarind road, Moulden. He again gave a positive reading and was arrested again and taken back to the Palmerston Station where he returned a reading of .082%.

“While Palmerston members were transporting the 29-year-old man to the Darwin Watch House, they observed a vehicle swerving all over the road in front of them on Benison Road, Bayview.

“The car was pulled over and the 20-year-old female driver also provided a positive reading.  Further Police attended and arrested the female who was taken back to the Darwin Police Station, where she provided breath analysis reading of .110%.

“The 29-year-old man has since been charged with two counts of medium range drink driving, the 20-year-old female has been charged with medium range drink driving and both will appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court.

“This type of behaviour is disappointing the first time round, then the second time it is just stupid. This man had no regard for his own life, the innocent lives of others or the law.

“We are not playing a game here and if you think you won’t get caught, you are dead wrong. Plan who will be your “sober bob” before you go out or start drinking, because changes are, you will make a bad decision later on.

“Remember, if you are caught and convicted in court you will lose your drivers licence which can have huge ramifications for your work and family,” said Senior Sergeant Wayne Jenkinson.
