Disturbance -Yarralin

Police from Timber Creek, Kalkaringi and Katherine have been sent to the Yarralin community following a large disturbance in which two females were seriously injured overnight.

Police received a report just after 7pm of a large disturbance outside the Yarralin Health Clinic.  Members of two families had allegedly gathered following a dispute and two women, aged 17 and 19, had been seriously injured in the fighting.

The 17-year-old was allegedly dragged to the ground by another female during the fight and a large rock weighing around 12 kg was dropped onto her back.

At the same time a 19-year-old woman sustained head and chest injuries when she was kicked numerous times by a number of people in the crowd.

Yarralin Police attended and dispersed the crowd and both victims have been transported to Katherine Hospital.

Senior Sergeant Bob Harrison said police reinforcements from Timber Creek, and Kalkaringi have been sent to the community and Police from the Northern Investigations Division from Katherine will investigate the incident.

“The Top Springs Hotel and the Timber Creek Hotel have been contacted and asked to stop all takeaway alcohol sales to Yarralin community members until the situation has calmed down.

“In the meantime police will continue to monitor the situation and liaise with members of both families to prevent further fighting.”
