Detectives from the General Crime Section have released a comfit of an alleged offender involved in an incident that occurred in Darwin City on Saturday morning.

It is alleged that at around 3:00 am, unknown offenders have entered a road construction site on Jenkins Road in Noonamah.

Senior Sergeant Scott Pollock said the offenders have located two sets of car keys and stolen two vehicles from the compound.

“A Mitsubishi Triton utility was found completely destroyed by fire after being driven off the road and becoming stuck on a large rock.

“The second stolen vehicle, being a maroon Commodore station wagon, was driven to a service station in Durack where the offenders refuelled and drove off without playing.

“It is alleged the vehicle was driven into the Darwin CBD at around 4:00 am in the vicinity of the Asti Motel. During this time a 21-year-old man and two women, aged 21 and 26, were walking down Smith Street near the Asti Motel when they were approached by occupants from the car.

“It is alleged that one of the offenders grabbed the 21-year-old’s handbag and ran from the area. The man and two women gave chase which resulted in the 26-year-old woman being punched in the face.  As the offender ran, he threw items from the handbag onto the ground, eventually throwing the handbag as well.  A sum of $120 contained in the handbag was stolen.

“A short time later, the man and women saw the group and witnessed them entering the stolen Commodore that had driven from Mitchell Street, down Peary Street, towards Smith Street.

“The 21-year-old women approached the vehicle in an attempt to speak with the offender.  In doing so, she placed her hands onto the drivers opened window frame.  The driver then drove the stolen vehicle backwards and forwards, until the 21-year-old woman fell onto the road, receiving minor injuries.  The offender drove off along Smith Street and onto Daly Street. He is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, aged in his late teens, of a skinny build, with wavy collar length hair and wearing a dark coloured tank top.

“The stolen vehicle was located by Police in Wulagi shortly before 5:00 am. Several items that were inside the vehicle remain outstanding, including an engel fridge, Dick Smith stereo, black iPad and Christmas shopping including brand new kids toys and various clothing items.

The offender who stole the handbag is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, approximately 15-years-old, 152cms tall and of thin build. He has a dark complexion and short dark hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing a sky blue shirt with an image or writing on the front, dark blue baggy 3/4 length jeans and large white sneakers with thick laces. He was also wearing a white cap with black stripes. (see attached COMFIT)
