Call for witnesses Darwin City

Police

Police are calling on witnesses to come forward following an incident that occurred in Darwin City early this morning.

It is alleged that at around 4:00 am, two women aged 21 and 26 were walking down Smith Street near the Asti Motel when they were approached by three people.

Senior Sergeant Scott Pollock said that one of them grabbed the 21-year-old’s handbag and ran from the scene.

“The victim’s gave chase but lost sight of them,” said Senior Sergeant Pollock.

“Soon after the women saw the group and witnessed them entering a stolen maroon Commodore station wagon that had driven down Peary Street and parked on Mitchell Street.

“The two women approached the vehicle in attempt to retrieve the handbag. The 26-year-old was punched to the face as the other woman reached through the car window.

“It appears that the 21-year-old has grabbed onto the car as the offender’s drove off along Smith Street and onto Daly Street. This resulted in her falling from the vehicle whilst it was still in motion, receiving minor injuries.”

The first offender is described to be of Aboriginal appearance, approximately 15-years-old, 152 cms tall and of thin build. He has a dark complexion and short dark hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing a dark blue shirt with an image or writing on the front, dark blue baggy 3/4 length jeans and large white sneakers with thick laces. He was also wearing a white cap with black stripes.

The second offender was described to be of Aboriginal appearance and also around 15-years-old. He is around 163 cms tall, thin build with short brown hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing a fitted white 'Bonds' singlet and dark 3/4 length baggy shorts.

The stolen vehicle has since been located by Police in Wulagi.

Police urge anyone that may have been in the area at the time of the incident, or who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously near Uncle Sam’s at around 4:00 am last night, to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
