Arrests for grog theft – Alice Springs

Police

Two men will appear in court following an unlawful entry at the Tilmouth Well Roadhouse on the Tanami Highway at the weekend.

Yuendumu Police received a report around 5.30am on Saturday that the roadhouse had been broken into and entry gained after a window was smashed. Thieves then made off with a large quantity of alcohol including cases of UDL cans and bottles of spirits.

Members of the Territory Response Group patrolled the Tanami Highway and located the two alleged offenders drinking approximately 20 kilometres east of the Yuendumu turn-off just before 10am. A Toyota Landcruiser in which the men were travelling was also seized.

Police also seized what was left of the stolen alcohol hidden nearby.

The two men, aged 25 and 29, have been charged with unlawful entry, stealing and bringing liquor into a restricted area. They have been remanded in custody to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court tomorrow. (Tuesday)
