Unlawful entry - Palmerston Golf Club

Police

Four youths are currently in police custody after breaking into the Palmerston Golf Club early this morning.

At about 1:00 am today two male youths unlawfully entered a secure compound containing a number of golf buggies and electrical equipment at the Palmerston Golf Club in Driver. The 14 and 15-year-old youths are alleged to have used an angle grinder which they located in the shed to open the fence before driving away with two of the golf carts.

A short time later the offenders are believed to have met two other boys aged 10 and 11-years-old before driving them to the unsecured golf cart compound where they stole another two carts and all drove around the golf course in a cart each.

The offenders then unlawfully entered two shipping containers at the club and removed two cartons of coke and one carton of beer.

The youths attempted to flee on foot when police arrived on the scene, however, three were apprehended by an off duty NT Police Auxiliary and her partner. The youths were escorted back to the golf club where they were met by police and conveyed to Darwin Watch House to be interviewed.

The golf carts received minor damage during the incident.

OIC Palmerston Police Station, Wayne Jenkinson said it is great to see a police member even whilst off duty assisting in the arrest of these juveniles.

"I also remind all property owners either in business or at home to insure that your property is secured at all times" he said.
