Territory Day Celebration Wrap Up

NT Police and the Fire and Rescue Service were kept busy last night with over 120 Triple Zero calls specifically related to fireworks.

Territory wide, NT Fire and Rescue responded to 159 incidents, attending 96 reports of grass fires, seven structure fires and one vehicle fire between 9am yesterday and 6 am today.

District Officer Grant Hamon said: "It was a busy night and all NTFRS staff did a great job. NTFRS were staffed to cope with the increase in jobs overnight with extra members and fire trucks rostered on. Our career and volunteer crews were on the run until about 2am and did a great job as did our Fire Communications staff," he said.

Police were also kept busy with 170 disturbances reported last night, including noise complaints, youth disturbances, and neighbourhood disputes.

A large amount of fireworks were seized and will be disposed of through NT Work Safe.

Territory Duty Superintendent Bob Rennie said: "It was a busy night for NT Police and all authorities worked hard throughout the night."
