Passenger falls out of travelling vehicle - Borroloola

Police

NT Police would like to remind drivers of the dangers of having unrestrained passengers after a female fell out of a travelling vehicle in Borroloola last night.

At approximately 10:55 pm, police were called to assist the local clinic ambulance with a 29-year-old female who fell off the back of a utility.

It is alleged the female flagged down the Holden Rodeo along Savannah Way and got into the tray of the utility after realising the vehicle was full.

At some stage while travelling from Borroloola to Police Lagoon, the female has fallen out of the rear tray.

When the 26-year-old male driver realised the female had fallen out, he quickly turned around and returned along the same road. He located the passenger lying on the road approximately six kilometres from where he had picked her up from.

The female was taken to the Borroloola clinic with minor injuries and has since been discharged.

Sergeant Gert Johnsson from the Borroloola Police Station says it is fortunate the woman wasn't seriously injured.

"The woman is lucky she only suffered minor injuries as a result, this incident could have had a far worse or even fatal outcome.

"Riding in the back of a utility tray is not only a dangerous act but it is also illegal, stay safe and responsible on our roads," he said.
