Additional police from Nhulunbuy travelled to Gapuwiyak in North Eastern Arnhem Land to ensure calm in the costal community overnight.

Police managed to disarm participants and calm the arguing parties, eventually dispersing the crowd without further incident. It is understood that the unrest had arisen surrounding burial arrangements of a recently deceased Gapuwiyak man. Police and Night Patrol continued to monitor the situation, conducting regular patrols overnight. Community leaders are expected to discuss the incident at a Mala meeting scheduled for today.
