A 36-year-old Gapuwiyak man has been summonsed for possession of cannabis in a public place following a drug bust at Maningrida. Katherine Substance Abuse and Intelligence Desk, Dog Operations Unit and Maningrida Police seized approximately 8 grams of cannabis last Friday after conducting screening of passengers and baggage arriving on a commercial flight from Darwin. Narcotic Detector Dog 'Leo' provided a controlled response to the luggage of a transiting passenger. A further search of the man's luggage revealed two small packages wrapped tightly in electrical tape. These two packages in turn contained eight small clip seal bags containing cannabis.

If sold in communities, the 1900grams of cannabis would have a possible street value of well over $200 000.
