Police were patrolling in the vicinity Limonite Street at approximately 10:20 pm when they observed the female laying near a foot bridge and not moving.

The woman was taken to Tennant Creek Hospital by St John Ambulance and later medivaced to Alice Springs Hospital.

A 17 year old male has been arrested and is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

"We believe the woman was assaulted with a thick tree branch" Detective Sergeant Glenn Leafe said.
