Police



The man was pulled over approximately 50km outside of Ramingining as a part of an operation also involving Police from Jabiru, Oenpelli, Warruwi, and Ramingining for the Maningrida Football Grand Final, which was held last weekend.

A search of the vehicle has found 287 cans of VB beer concealed in a 44 gallon drum. Police have also located 28 grams of cannabis and a number of home brew kits.

The man was arrested with the alcohol and his vehicle seized before being conveyed to the Manaingrida Police station.

A subsequent search of the man's residence has located a further 54 litres of home brew beer and 15 cans of VB.

The man has been charged with:

Possession/ Control / Transport over 1350mls of alcohol
Possess Cannabis in a public place
Possess Implement to Administer a Dangerous Drug
Drive Unlicensed

The man was bailed to appear at the Maningrida CSJ on 7 July 2010.

Superintendent Helen Braam praised the work of local Police saying "Our remote police officers work hard to uphold the motto 'Keeping People Safe'. We're proud to say we've achieved a small win in that ongoing battle".

In addition, police seized a further
195 grams (about 6 1/2 ounces) of cannabis (4 x offenders charged with possess & supply cannabis) and 8 litres of alcohol (spirits).

1 x Firearm offence
1 x Controlled weapon offence
1 x Unregistered / Uninsured motor vehicle
3 x Liquor infringements issued
1 x Summary infringement issued
3 x Traffic infringements issued
4 x vehicles seized

Police also seized 380 Kilograms of Kava with seven persons arrested and charged.

"One can only wonder what more you need to do to disuade these parasites from plying their trade to vulnerable people in remote communities," Superintendent Braam said.

"We've taken their cars, handed out fines, arrested and charged and in some instances imprisoned them.

"If nothing else, the results of this operation, made possible by our collegues in Fachsia, has only made us more determined to target and disrupt these people who apparently lack the backbone and initiative to provide a worthwhile and lawful contribution to society and their fellow human beings, " she said.
