Airport cannabis seizure - Darwin

Police

Members from the Drug Enforcement Section and Dog Operations Unit conducted passenger and luggage screening at Darwin Airport last night on a flight travelling to Groote Eylandt.

A 32-year-old woman will be summonsed in relation to the supply of drugs after Drug Detector Dog Foley reacted positively to a black suitcase she was travelling with. A subsequent search was conducted locating a total of 35.6 grams of cannabis wrapped in oven bags and taped up with grey electrical tape.

Drug Dog Taipan reacted positively to a 44-year-old man who was found to be carrying a small amount of cannabis in the pocket of his fishing jacket. He was issued with an infringement notice at the scene for possession of cannabis.

Members also conducted screening at the Darwin Airport on Tuesday where Drug Dog Foley discovered a total of 19.68 grams in the vehicle of a 45-year-old female. She will be summonsed in relation to possessing cannabis in a public place and supply cannabis after a small bag in the rear of the vehicle was found to contain 17 deal sized clip-seal bags of cannabis.

Detective Senior Sergeant Clint Sims from the Drug Enforcement Section said: "Our Dog Operation Unit members are highly trained and their Drug Detection Dogs can detect a wide variety of dangerous drugs. NT Police are committed to keeping people safe and preventing dangerous drugs from entering our communities so seizures such as this will continue on a regular basis."
