Police

Excellent policing led to the quick arrest of a 16-year-old male youth yesterday morning.

Between 3:30 and 4:30 am the youth and a co offender committed various offences in the Nightcliff area before being apprehended by police at about 5:00am.

It is alleged the youth broke into a Mitsubishi hatchback near the Nightcliff Jetty. After failing to start the vehicle the offender removed the stereo head unit and fled the scene.

The offenders then located an unlocked Isuzu truck on Rankin Street and attempted to start it. After failing to start the car the youth smashed the passenger side window and fled the scene.

It appears they then entered a Casuarina Drive premises via an unlocked kitchen door before fleeing after being disturbed by the occupants.

Members from Casuarina Police arrested the boy on Casuarina Drive and conveyed him to Darwin Watch house where he has been charged in relation to the following offences:

Aggravated unlawful entry of a dwelling - armed
Stealing
Interfere with motor vehicle x (2)
Steal from motor vehicle
Attempt to commit a crime x (2)

He has been bailed to appear in Darwin Magistrates Court on 4 August.

Superintendent Rob Jordan urges the public to be aware of opportunistic offenders.

"It is likely if your home or vehicle is not secure an offender will take advantage of that situation".

"Police will continue to work extremely hard to keep youths off our streets and this is an example of excellent timely policing".
