The Northern Territory Police Force are appealing for public assistance following a suspected arson on the Victoria Highway, approximately 20km east of Timber Creek, that resulted in a vehicle fire, a large grass fire and significant damage to a passing hay truck.
Between 12pm and 4:30pm on 2 September 2026, a sedan was engulfed in flames before the fire spread to nearby grassland and a passing hay truck.
Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service, with assistance from local pastoralists, extinguished the fires.
No injuries were reported.
Detectives from Katherine Criminal Investigation Branch believe the fire was deliberately lit and investigations remain ongoing.
Police are urging anyone with information, photos, video footage or dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident to come forward.
