The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested an 18-year-old man in relation to a serious assault that occurred in Wadeye early Thursday morning.

Just before 4am, police received a report that a 28-year-old man had presented to the Wadeye Health Clinic with an arrow wound to his chest.

It is alleged the man was walking along a dirt track near the main oval when a vehicle stopped nearby. A man allegedly exited the vehicle and fired an arrow at the victim before fleeing the area.

The victim suffered a suspected punctured lung and was subsequently medically evacuated to Royal Darwin Hospital for further treatment in a stable condition.

Following investigations, the 18-year-old presented himself to the Wadeye Police Station over the weekend and was arrested.

He has since been charged with:

• Acts Intended to Cause Serious Harm
• 2x Recklessly Endangering Serious Harm
• 2x Going Armed in Public
• 2x Engage in Violent Conduct
• Take Part in a Riot
