Arrests – Stolen motor vehicle – Alice Springs

Police

The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested seven offenders after a vehicle was stolen during an aggravated burglary in Alice Springs earlier this morning.

At 5:10am, members from Strike Force Viper engaged in a pursuit of a vehicle allegedly stolen from an address a short time earlier on Cromwell Drive in Desert Springs. The pursuit was terminated as the vehicle travelled west along Larapinta Drive towards Hermannsburg for safety reasons.

Around 5:30am, the vehicle was sighted returning into Alice Springs. The pursuit recommenced and tyre deflation devices were successfully deployed on the vehicle on Larapinta Drive. It continued driving for a short period of time before coming to a stop in Flynn.

Up to eight offenders fled from the vehicle and, with support from the Dog Operations Unit’s Patrol Dog Axe, seven were arrested.

Four females aged 12, 13, 15, and 22-years-old, and three males aged 15, 17, and 19-years-old, remain in police custody with charges expected to follow.

One unknown offender remains outstanding and investigations are ongoing.

Southern Commander James Gray-Spence said, “I commend the excellent work of our members to successfully apprehend these offenders.

“This is a great example of units working together to ensure those who choose to conduct reckless criminal behaviour are held accountable for their actions.

“Strike Force Viper are working hard to identify the outstanding offender and anyone with information is urged to contact police on 131 444.”
