Six male youths have been arrested after the theft of a motor vehicle in Alice Springs overnight.
Around 11:30pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre (JESCC) received a report of a vehicle being stolen from a unit complex on Bloomfield Street.
It is alleged the 39-year-old male victim had been inside his white Toyota Prado when a youth reached inside the vehicle and removed the keys from the ignition. The victim exited the vehicle, and a group of youths allegedly fled the scene in the Prado.
Multiple police units deployed, including Strike Force Viper, the Dog Operations Unit and general duties members.
Just after 2am, tyre deflation devices were successfully deployed on the stolen motor vehicle along Larapinta Drive. The vehicle continued travelling west and was found abandoned in the Jay Creek area. Police established cordons and after a lengthy search, six youths aged 13, 14, 14, 14, 16 and 17 were arrested. They remain in police custody at this time.
The Prado has been seized for forensic investigation, and additional offenders are believed to be outstanding.
