Arrest – Assault worker – Alice Springs

An 18-year-old male has been arrested in relation to an assault that occurred in Alice Springs yesterday evening.

Around 8:30pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre (JESCC) received a report that a security guard had been assaulted at a licensed premises on Gap Road, The Gap.

It is alleged an 18-year-old male and unknown female had been asked to leave the premises but refused. The male allegedly punched the security guard to the face, and the female armed herself with a boomerang, causing staff to retreat indoors for safety.

Both offenders fled prior to police arrival.

The security guard was assessed at the scene, and no other injuries were reported to police.

Police commenced investigations and the 18-year-old male was arrested a short time later after a traffic apprehension.

He has since been charged with Assault Worker, Fail to leave licensed premises and Disorderly behaviour in public place and will appear in court today.

The female offender remains outstanding and investigations are ongoing.
