The Northern Territory Police Force has responded to further disturbances in Wadeye overnight.
Around 7:50pm, Wadeye police members were conducting proactive patrols along Perdjert Street when they observed up to 50 people involved in an altercation involving blunt weapons.
Police intervened and the group dispersed. No injuries were reported to police as a result of the incident.
A short time later, around 9pm, police received further reports of a disturbance occurring on Perdjert Street involving up to 300 people some of which allegedly armed with blunt and edged weapons.
Police attended and attempted to deescalate; however, the group became hostile toward officers, and members withdrew for safety reasons.
A short time later, police deployed OC Spray and the group dispersed.
No injuries were reported to police as a result of the incident.
Superintendent Glenn Leafe said, “Police are monitoring the situation and working with community leaders and families to help restore calm and prevent further incidents.”
