Call for Information - Aggravated Assault – Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police are calling for information following an aggravated assault in the Alice Springs CBD early this morning.

Around 5:35am, Alice Springs police officers arriving for day shift witnessed a serious disturbance unfolding on Parsons Street, directly in front of the Alice Springs Police Station.

Earlier a 31-year-old man was attacked by a group of males, which included one with a machete and one with a wheel spanner, near a local fast-food restaurant.

When the victim attempted to flee towards the Police Station, 3 offenders chased him.

On the roadway outside the station, the man was taken to the ground and violently assaulted, with CCTV footage showing he was punched, kicked and stomped on more than 40 times.

Members on scene intervened immediately, with officers arresting a 21-year-old male.

The remaining offenders fled the area in a vehicle.

The victim sustained non-life-threatening head injuries and was transported to Alice Springs Hospital.

Alice Springs Criminal Investigation Branch detectives are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have dash-cam or CCTV footage from the area between 5:15am and 6:00am, to contact police on 131 444 and quote reference number NTP2500120693.
