A 17-year-old male has been arrested in relation to a domestic violence incident that occurred in Alice Spring yesterday.

Around 4:35pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received a report of a disturbance occurring in the Todd River, adjacent to Leichhardt Terrace near the Alice Springs CBD.

It is alleged the 17-year-old male assaulted a female youth, who was known to him, by throwing rocks at her. The offender left the scene before allegedly returning with a blunt weapon which he used to hit her multiple times to the head and body.

Nearby people intervened and the offender left the area.

Police responded and commenced investigations. The offender was located and arrested a short time later on Parsons Street. The blunt weapon allegedly involved was also located and seized by police.

The victim was conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital for treatment.

The offender has since been charged with Aggravated Assault and Going Armed in Public and is due to appear in court today.
