A 46-year-old male has been arrested after he assaulted a medical staff member in Alice Springs last night.

Around 9:15pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received a report that a 49-year-old male employee had been assaulted by a patient at the Alice Springs Hospital.

It is alleged the offender was being assessed when he physically assaulted the victim, punching him multiple times to the head. Multiple staff intervened and pulled the offender away from the victim.

The victim was assessed at the scene.

Police attended and arrested the 46-year-old offender.

He has since been charged with assaulting a worker and was remanded to appear in the Alice Springs Local Court tomorrow.
