Police are calling for information after an aggravated assault occurred in Palmerston early this morning.

Around 1:05am, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre received reports that a female had allegedly been assaulted with an edged weapon by a female unknown to her and suffered a laceration to the cheek.

It is alleged that the incident took place between Dunbar Park and Temple Terrace before members of the public located the victim at a service station on Chung Wah Terrace and called police.

Police and St John Ambulance attended, and the female was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital in a stable condition for treatment.

The alleged offender remains outstanding, and investigations are ongoing.
