Arrest – Domestic violence – Alice Springs

A 30-year-old male has been arrested after a domestic violence incident occurred in Alice Springs yesterday.

Around 7:15pm, the male offender allegedly assaulted a female believed to be known to him in Todd Mall. A nearby male pedestrian attempted to intervene and was also assaulted by the offender. He again assaulted and stomped on the female victim before fleeing the scene.

A short time later, the offender ran across Gregory Terrace without due care and was unintentionally struck by an unmarked police vehicle. Police arrested the male and conveyed him to Alice Springs Hospital for assessment. He subsequently escaped custody at the hospital and was re-apprehended by police following a taser deployment after he failed to follow police directions.

The driver of the unmarked police vehicle returned a negative alcohol breath test.

The 30-year-old has since been charged with Recklessly endangering serious harm, Aggravated assault, Assault person preventing injury another, Escape from lawful custody and Engage in conduct that contravenes DVO. He was remanded to appear in court today.
