A 25-year-old male has been arrested in Alice Springs overnight after allegedly chasing his partner while armed with an edged weapon.

Around 12:35am this morning, police received a report from security staff of a violent incident occurring in the foyer of an entertainment complex on Barrett Drive.

It is alleged the 25-year-old was chasing his female partner while attempting to strike her multiple times with an edged weapon. Security staff intervened, placing themselves between the offender and the victim, while the offender continued to strike at both the victim and security.

The offender was subsequently restrained and arrested upon police arrival. The weapon involved was identified and seized.

The victim sustained minor injuries, and no injuries were reported by security staff.

The 25-year-old male has since been charged with:

  • Acts intended to cause serious harm or prevent apprehension
  • Going armed in public
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Assault person preventing injury to another (2x)

The male was remanded to appear in Alice Springs Local Court on 16 June.
