Seizure – Kava - Galiwinku

Police

Northern Territory Police seized a large quantity of Kava in Galiwinku community on Tuesday afternoon.

Around 2:30pm, police received intelligence of kava being stored at a residence on Nalkanna street. Galiwinku members attended the residence and conducted a lawful search that allegedly located 196kg of Kava concealed in suitcases.

A 63-year-old male and a 57-year-old female were charged and will face Galiwinku Local Court

Remote Sergeant Dylan Hart said, “The misuse of kava contributes to ongoing health issues and economic challenges and remains a significant concern in remote communities.

“We will continue to take strong action against any illicit substances entering restricted areas.

“Police would like to thank the community for their on-going support in identifying the supply and distribution of Kava in remote communities.”
