Alcohol seizures – Daly River region

Northern Territory Police have made two seizures of quantities of alcohol destined for remote communities in the Daly River region earlier this week.

On Friday 24 May, police conducting pro-active patrols apprehended a vehicle along the Daly River Road containing the following:

  • 1 x 1L bottle of liquor
  • 7 x 700ml bottle of liquor
  • 1 x carton of full-strength beer
  • 3 x 10 pack of pre-mixed alcohol
  • 4 loose cans of pre-mixed alcohol
  • 10 x pre-mixed alcohol stubbies

On Saturday 1 June, police conducting pro-active patrols apprehended a vehicle intended for Wadeye containing the following:

  • 18 x 1L bottles of liquor
  • 4 x 700ml bottles of liquor
  • 26 x pre-mixed alcohol

All alcohol seized has been subsequently destroyed by police and the drivers of the vehicles were cautioned.

Senior Sergeant Erica Gibson said, “We would remind all those intending to transport alcohol into restricted areas that police have the powers to seize vehicles and any subsequent alcohol found inside.

“We know all too well the devastating impacts of alcohol related harm in our remote communities and will continue to pro-actively target those intending to bring alcohol into restricted areas.”
