Northern Territory Police are calling for information after a fatal hit and run occurred in Coconut Grove overnight.
Around 11:50pm, police received reports that a 42-year-old man had been struck by a vehicle on Progress Drive, Coconut Grove. The man was on the road at the time of the collision.
The driver did not stop at the scene to render assistance or report the incident to police and continued driving.
St John Ambulance attended, and the man was declared deceased at the scene.
A crime scene was declared, and Major Crash detectives worked through the night to recover forensic evidence located at the crash scene.
Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said, “Operation Mandible, comprising a team of Major Crash and Crime Division detectives, has commenced this morning.
“Detectives have now identified a vehicle of interest recorded on dashcam CCTV which captured the crash.
“I urge the driver to attend a local police station as soon as possible. It is not too late to do the right thing and hand yourself in before we identify you.”
The vehicle involved is described as a light-colour older model sedan.
