Northern Territory Police are calling for witnesses to an aggravated assault that occurred in Tiwi earlier today.

Around 12pm, police received reports that a man had assaulted a 25-year-old man with an edged weapon on Trower Road, Tiwi.

Both men are known to one another.

The offender fled the scene in a vehicle prior to emergency service attendance.

The victim suffered lacerations to his neck and face and was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment.

Detectives urge anyone who witnessed the incident to make contact on 131 444.
